Helping Homeowners Save Money, Energy and Reduce Carbon Footprint …
Designing a Solar PV and Battery Storage System
Bright Spark were appointed by Mr and Mrs Aldrich to design, supply and install a Solar PV system with Battery Storage at their home in Leigh, Surrey. The Aldrich’s are passionate about reducing their impact on the environment.
Brief:
The owners wanted to significantly reduce the houses electricity usage during the day but also store any excess Solar Energy generated for the evenings (particularly the dark winter evenings), our job was to design a system that would meet and exceed all of the owners requirements. Our electrical team also had to upgrade the existing electrical installation onsite to meet current standards.
Design:
After visiting and surveying the property we designed a system that would provide enough renewable energy to run the electrical appliances in the house, heat hot water using the MyEnergi EDDI system and store any excess energy into a battery to be used at night time.
The technical design included:
- 16 x Solar Panels (JA Solar)
- Solax Hybrid Inverter with 6.3KW Battery Storage
- New Consumer Unit to provide a board for installation of Inverter, Battery Storage and Car Charging.
- MyEnergi Premium Package to include: MyEnergi Hub (Connecting the System to the Internet) – MyEnergi Harvi (with 3 x CT Clamps) for System Monitoring – MyEnergi Eddi (installed to power Solar Immersion Coils in water tank supporting Solar Thermal System in winter months).
The Solar PV System with Battery Storage was designed to save money by reducing energy from the grid and reduce their carbon footprint. The quotation was evaluated and agreed by the owners who were keen to start installation as soon as possible.
Installation
The install was completed over a 2 day period, in the midst of one of the hottest weeks in August, there was minimal impact to the owners and house during this time. We are also installing a MyEnergy Zappi Car Charging point at the property as the existing car charging point needed to be replaced.

“Having had several companies quote for the installation of a PV solar array and battery storage system we decided on Bright Spark Energy because Mark, who had come along to see us, had demonstrated a clear understanding of the principles of solar generation, and the battery storage concept, based on his own experiences, he wasn’t just selling something. We discussed the pro’s and con’s and I felt confident that we would get what we wanted. The team that came out to carry out the work were dedicated to ensuring the equipment was installed and connected not only to be efficient but aesthetically as possible, it looked good when they’d finished, this despite having to work in the height of the summer heat, especially on the roof , and inside the loft. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Bright spark Energy, we are very pleased.”
