Case Study: The White Horse Federation – Phase 3

The team at Bright Spark has a long established partnership with the White Horse Federation Schools Trust. Since 2018, we have successfully installed 25 Solar PV systems (ranging from 11kWp to 220kWp) across the Trust’s diverse range of buildings and roof types. Our comprehensive service offering extends beyond installation, to include an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) package.  Covering proactive and reactive maintenance, as well as annual service visits, it guarantees optimal system performance and longevity.

The latest phase of our collaboration was completed in 2023 with resounding success. This phase involved the installation of 11 Solar PV arrays across 8 schools within the Federation, boasting a total system size of 535.6kWp. Starting on the 1st February 2023, we diligently managed the project and completed the installation by 1st September 2023, after a one-month delay in the DNO approval

Phase 4 is slated for delivery during the 2024 School Summer Holidays and will encompass the installation of Solar PV systems across an additional 6 school sites while they are shut to students.

This ongoing partnership underscores our commitment to sustainability and renewable energy within the education sector. We’re particularly proud to have enabled the White Horse Federation to reduce their carbon emissions, lower their energy costs and inspire good environmental stewardship across their network of schools.

As of February 2024, the Academy Trust solar pv systems have generated 1,878,574 kWhs of clean, renewable energy across their estate.  This has saved just over £400,000, which has been invested back into teaching and learning resources. TWHF has also reduced its carbon footprint by planting approximately 3,900 trees each year, saving over 100 tons of CO2 emissions per annum.

Bright Spark’s Operations and Maintenance programme for the White Horse Federation provides both proactive and reactive maintenance, annual servicing (including full electrical and roof inspections) and performance monitoring, all from our operations centre in Exmouth, Devon.
