Reducing Burrsvilles electricity bill by 80%
As part of a pilot programme for REAch2 Academy Trust, Bright Spark developed Burrsville as one of three pilot sites to be upgraded for Solar PV and LED at the same time.
Bright Spark managed the installation via the REAch2 procurement framework for Solar PV for the installation by Evogreen of 25KWp (96 panels) on the roof at Burrsville.

UPGRADING POOR QUALITY AND INEFFICIENT LIGHTING:
As part of the wider REAch2 Energy Pilot Programme Bright Spark managed the feasibility, procurement, installation and funding of a complete LED upgrade at Burrsville Infant Academy as part of a joint LED/Solar PV Programme. The project at Burrsville is to reduce the electricity usage to as low as 20% of current levels.
The existing lighting at Burrsville was ten years and the emergency lighting did not meet the BS EN5266 guidelines. Maintenance was becoming a real issue due to the wide range of light fittings and the various add-ons over the years. The classrooms also tended to over heat in the summer months partly due to the heat from the lighting having to be on as some rooms were very dark.
As part of the REAch2 Energy Pilot led by Ian Carnwell, the REAch Estates Director, the project was designed to replace a mixture of T12 and T8 traditional flourescant lighting with new efficient LEDs. The project was self funding with no capital cost. Maintenance and energy savings paying for the lighting and creating a small surplus that is committed to be invested back into furthering the educational outcomes of disadvantaged children.
