South Downs Barn Conversion

Southdowns barn conversion

A recent project to install a small solar PV system on a barn in the South Downs National Park. We installed an in-roof GSE kit with 4 all-black solar panels from JA as per planning requirements. The in-roof mounting system looked fantastic, sleek and was easy to install.

The barn’s new solar PV system will generate 1,600 kWh per annum or roughly 50% of an average household’s annual energy usage. The installed system is enough for the barn to operate at normal capacity on a daily basis.

Bright Spark paired this installation with a SolarEdge micro-inverter which isolates PV panels from one another so anything that could reduce a panel’s output won’t prevent the entire array from generating electricity as efficiently. A micro-inverter will optimise and enhance energy production which is perfect for an area where natural debris or shade from trees could land on a panel.

The barn’s new solar PV system has the equivalent impact of planting 3 trees a year and saves around £650 annually in electricity bills.
